12 Work at Home Companies That Are Almost Always Hiring

Working from home has a multitude of benefits ranging from better work-life balance to schedule flexibility and freedom. In 2019, close to 5 million American workers were already working remotely and as much as 42% of the workforce is working from home in 2020 according to an article from Stanford News. In light of the pandemic, more employers are seeing that they can transition existing positions in to remote work opportunities now more than ever before. While not every company can be hiring all the time, these 12 companies are almost constantly seeking employees and/or independent contractors to work from home. Throughout 2020, these companies have had a very consistent list of job openings. Here they are, in no particular order:

1. Working Solutions

Working Solutions offers independent contractor positions for customer service, technical support, and sales for various clients. Potential clients offered vary from a tax software company to a tutoring business. As an independent contractor, you’ll get flexibility and control over your work schedule. Most of Working Solutions contractor positions require little experience, though some do require a background relevant to the job opening. They also hire for various remote positions, such as education training staff, that include a variety of benefits.

2. Appen

Appen offers several remote work options that range from just an hour or two a week up to 20+ hours per week so it’s best suited for a side hustle or a little extra money. Most positions involve web search evaluation, ads rating, and transcription with a few smaller tasks such as image tagging and collection. They may not offer a huge amount of hours per week but it is a great way to try out a remote work option without giving up your day job right away.

3. Arise Virtual Solutions

Arise Virtual Solutions offers virtual call center positions on an independent contractor basis. Opportunities include tech support, sales, and customer service for several different companies, ranging from luxury retail to financial companies. Most positions are phone based, but there are occasional chat and email opportunities, too. Again, you’ll get flexible scheduling as well as a wide selection of clients. 4. Lionbridge

Lionbridge’s opportunities are very similar to Appen’s: web search evaluation, transcription, and translation tasks. Again, hours are super variable and tend to be somewhat inconsistent, so it’s best for occasional part-time work. It’s also worth noting that you can’t contract with both Appen and Lionbridge at the same time, so keep that in mind when accepting offers.

5. LiveOps

LiveOps another option for virtual call center services with flexible scheduling. They also offer a nice selection of potential clients for you to choose from including a few healthcare companies, insurance groups, and high-end retail. Once you’re a part of the LiveOps platform, you’ll also get access to internal opportunities only available to existing agents. Accurately predicting hourly pay with LiveOps is a little tricky since they pay based on “talk time” which can vary depending on call volume. Average hourly pay seems to average around $11.75 with a possible $20 per hour for commission bonuses (however, not all positions offer commissions).

6. Sykes (formerly Alpine Access)

Sykes is another platform that offers virtual contact center work. They also have a variety of positions and a decent amount of them aren’t phone-based. Sykes has gone through several changes in the past few years, including acquiring another work from home organization: Alpine Access. Most positions require little to no previous experience, so it’s great for beginners. Hourly pay listed on Glassdoor ranges greatly from $9-16.50 per hour. Clients listed on their website include communications, healthcare, technology, transportation, financial services, and leisure.

7. Apple

Electronics titan Apple frequently hires remote workers for a multitude of different jobs. Current openings include general customer service, technical support, sales, as well as quality operations and management. Apple also has a thriving Apple Support College Program across the country that is focused on hiring university students. Opportunities vary from part-time to full-time, but since this isn’t an independent contractor positions, you could possible get benefits (dependent upon what’s offered for each individual job opening). 9. Concentrix

Concentrix offers customer service/sales, and technical support positions from home and has a rating of 3.9 on Glassdoor. According to their LinkedIn profile, they offer positions in the following areas: automotive, banking/financial services, insurance, healthcare, technology sector, consumer electronics, media/telecommunications, retail/e-commerce, travel, and energy. Their recruiting process includes the typical interview, typing test, and drug screen process and lasts from a few days to a few weeks. Concentrix is highly sough after since they offer benefits such as insurance and paid time off.

10. Direct Interactions

Need a job fast? Direct Interactions is frequently hiring and their on boarding process can be a matter of a couple of days. They have been in the call center industry since 2007 and pride themselves on diversity, especially focusing hiring those with mobility and their caregivers. Glassdoor lists their average hourly rate as $11 per hour and has a rating of 3.9. Direct Interactions also offers incentives and bonuses for most positions and began offering work from home jobs in contact tracing this past summer.

11. NexRep

Another company offering call center work and has a quick hiring process is NexRep. They offer positions in customer service, outbound sales, and inbound sales. Inbound sales seems to offer the greatest earning potential with a possible $15-25 per hour. All call center positions are independent contractor roles and you’ll have complete control over your schedule as long as you meet minimum scheduling requirements. NexRep reviews reveal one big pro and con. For the good news, most call types and campaigns are fairly simple and scripted. For the bad news? Several NexRep contractors mention a lack of organization during training and you’ll need to be a very independent problem solver to complete the process. As for the latter, this tends to be true of most work from home certification processes, but some are definitely easier than others.

12. U-Haul

U-Haul is actually one of the most highly regarded companies offering remote work today, and for good reason: their employees cite a high level of job satisfaction and specifically mention that they feel appreciated by their management. That’s something you don’t hear every day from any job, remote or not. Their positions involve reservations and sales and pay ranges anywhere from $10-15 per hour with potential incentives. U-Haul does have slower seasons of the year, so this makes great part-time work or side hustle.
